Tesla Unveils Redesigned Model Y 'Juniper' with Enhanced Features and Performance

Tesla has launched a redesigned version of its Model Y SUV in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, with deliveries set to begin in March 2025. The updated Model Y, dubbed “Juniper,” features a starting price of $59,990 before incentives and includes a fully loaded “Launch Series” trim. This version comes with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driver assist, Acceleration Boost, and special badging. The redesign includes updated front and rear lights, an enhanced interior with an 8-inch touchscreen for rear passengers, acoustic glass, a new sound system, and a retuned suspension. Notably, the steering wheel now includes a turn signal stalk, a departure from Tesla’s recent trend of integrating controls into the wheel.

The refreshed Model Y also boasts improved efficiency and performance, with a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 125 mph. Tesla claims a range of 320 miles for the new model, slightly higher than the previous version’s 311-mile EPA estimate. Despite the updates, Tesla will continue selling the older Model Y at reduced prices, with the price difference between the new and old models being approximately $4,000 for similarly specced versions.

Tesla’s move comes as the company faces declining sales in Europe, where its market share dropped by 13% in 2024, and increased competition from rivals like Volvo, Renault, and BMW, which are rolling out more affordable electric vehicles. The updated Model Y is seen as a critical step in revitalizing Tesla’s core automotive business, which reported its first year-over-year sales decline in 2024. The company is also preparing to release a lower-priced EV in early 2025, aiming to return to a 50% growth rate.
