Rutgers Men's Basketball Faces Season Challenge with Ogbole's Injury
Rutgers men’s basketball has suffered a significant setback as junior center Emmanuel Ogbole will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury sustained during the team’s recent loss to Penn State. Ogbole, who started 15 of the team’s first 19 games, averaged 3.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game in 14.8 minutes of play. The Spartans, led by guard Tyson Walker (13.9 points per game), enter the matchup with a 16-2 record and an 11-game winning streak. Michigan State is favored by 5.5 points, with the over/under set at 148.5 points. Rutgers will lean heavily on its star freshman duo, Ace Bailey (19.9 points, 7.9 rebounds per game) and Dylan Harper (19.3 points, 4.3 assists per game), to compete against the conference leaders.
The loss of Ogbole further complicates Rutgers’ postseason aspirations. While the team remains in contention for the NIT, making the NCAA Tournament would require a strong finish to the regular season or a deep run in the Big Ten Tournament.
