India Celebrates 76th Republic Day with Grand Parade and Indonesian President as Chief Guest
On January 26, 2025, India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, a grand parade was organized at Kartavya Path in Delhi, showcasing the country’s military strength and cultural diversity. The highlight of this year’s celebration was the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest. This was the first time that an Indonesian military contingent and band participated in a national day parade abroad.
The parade began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying tribute to the martyrs at the National War Memorial. Following this, President Droupadi Murmu hoisted the tricolor at Kartavya Path and took the salute of the parade. The parade included tableaux from 16 states and union territories, as well as 10 central ministries and departments, with the theme ‘Golden India: Heritage and Development.’
This year’s parade introduced several new dimensions. For the first time, a joint tableau of the three services was displayed, showcasing the collaboration between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Additionally, the DRDO-developed Pralay missile and the Army’s Battle Surveillance System ‘Sanjay’ were showcased for the first time. Modern military equipment such as the T-90 Bhishma tank, BrahMos missile, Pinaka rocket system, and Akash air defense system were also displayed during the parade.
During the parade, 5,000 artists performed in 45 different dance styles, reflecting the country’s cultural diversity. The Air Force’s 40 aircraft put on a spectacular flypast, including fighter jets like the Rafale, Su-30, and Jaguar.
This year’s Republic Day celebrations invited around 10,000 special guests, including village heads, ASHA workers, Paralympic athletes, and beneficiaries of government schemes. This reflects the government’s spirit of ‘public participation.’
To make this historic day even more special, President Murmu and Indonesian President Subianto traveled to Kartavya Path in a traditional buggy, reviving a tradition after 40 years.
The Republic Day celebrations will conclude on January 29 with the ‘Beating Retreat’ ceremony, which traditionally marks the final stage of the Republic Day festivities.
