Jalen Hurts Set to Play in NFC Championship Despite Knee Injury
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to play in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Washington Commanders despite dealing with a knee injury sustained in the divisional round win over the Los Angeles Rams. Hurts, who was a full participant in practice on Friday, anticipates wearing a knee brace for the game. The 26-year-old quarterback has been instrumental in the Eagles’ success this season, leading the team to a 12-3 record in his 15 starts and throwing for 2,903 yards with an 18-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He has also been a significant threat on the ground, rushing for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Hurts’ mobility, a key part of his game, was limited after the injury against the Rams, but he finished the game and has been progressing well. His teammates have expressed confidence in his ability to perform, with right tackle Lane Johnson noting that Hurts was “mobile” and “moving” during practice. Tight end Dallas Goedert, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, also practiced fully and declared himself ready for Sunday.
The Eagles are looking to return to the Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons, and Hurts’ leadership will be crucial. In a pregame speech to his teammates, Hurts emphasized the importance of a team effort, saying, “This game ain’t about nobody but us. The Commanders, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, are making their first NFC Championship appearance since 1991. The two teams split their regular-season meetings, with the Commanders winning in Week 16 after Hurts left the game with a concussion. This time, Hurts is determined to lead the Eagles to victory and secure a spot in Super Bowl LIX.
