LAFC Transfers Mateusz Bogusz to Cruz Azul and Announces Preseason Friendly Against Club América
Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has announced the transfer of midfielder Mateusz Bogusz to Liga MX club Cruz Azul. The 23-year-old Polish international, who joined LAFC in March 2023 from Leeds United, had a standout 2024 season, scoring a career-high 20 goals across all competitions. Bogusz’s departure marks the end of a successful stint with LAFC, where he appeared in 60 regular-season matches, scoring 18 goals and providing 11 assists. LAFC Co-President John Thorrington described the decision as difficult but necessary, noting that the transfer provides significant resources for the club’s future roster development. Bogusz, who made his senior national team debut for Poland in September 2024, will now continue his career in Mexico’s Liga MX.
In other Liga MX news, LAFC will face Club América in a preseason friendly on February 11, 2025, at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. The match, set to be broadcast on MLS Season Pass and Televisa, will see LAFC take on the most decorated team in Liga MX history, with Club América having won three consecutive league titles (Apertura 2023, Clausura 2024, and Apertura 2024). A portion of the match proceeds will support fire relief efforts in the Los Angeles area. This will be the third meeting between the two clubs, following previous encounters in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League semifinals and the 2022 Leagues Cup Showcase.
