Lin-Manuel Miranda Reprises Hamilton Role in SNL Skit Featuring Trump Parody

In a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, the show’s cold open featured a surprise appearance by Lin-Manuel Miranda reprising his role as Alexander Hamilton from the Broadway hit Hamilton. The sketch, set during the signing of the Declaration of Independence, took a sharp turn when James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of President Donald Trump interrupted Miranda’s rap to declare, “Never say never. I’m in my king era.”

Johnson’s Trump humorously compared himself to the Founding Fathers, stating, “Just like them, I am creating a new country as well. And just like them, we’re doing it very whitely.” He went on to boast about his first week back in office, highlighting his executive orders and the end of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. “DEI is over. It’s dead,” he quipped.

The sketch also poked fun at Trump’s inauguration, which he described as a “tremendous success” despite being held indoors due to “cold and fear.” He referenced surprise guests like Melania Trump and tech billionaires Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos. Addressing Musk’s controversial Nazi-like salute at the inauguration, Johnson’s Trump dismissed the criticism, claiming it was a new greeting called a “heil,” a cross between “hi” and “hello.”

Miranda’s Hamilton remained frozen in the background as Trump continued his monologue, teasing the Broadway star about his proximity to an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards). “He’s in sniffing distance of an EGOT, and he’s got to stand there until I’m done,” Trump joked.

The sketch concluded with Trump acknowledging Miranda’s presence, quipping, “I want to thank Lin for his generous, anonymous $1 million donation to my campaign. I know that was him.” Miranda, breaking character, shouted back, “No, it was not!” before the pair delivered the iconic SNL sign-off: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”

The cold open blended historical satire with contemporary political commentary, offering a humorous take on Trump’s return to the presidency and his controversial policies.
