São Paulo and Corinthians Clash in Rain-Delayed Majestic Derby
São Paulo and Corinthians faced each other this Sunday (26th) at Morumbis, in the fourth round of the Campeonato Paulista. The classic, known as the “Majestic,” was marked by heavy rains that delayed the start of the match from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM due to the condition of the field. The decision was made by the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) after a joint assessment with the clubs and the referees.
São Paulo took the field with the lineup of Rafael; Igor Vinícius, Arboleda, Alan Franco, and Enzo Díaz; Pablo Maia and Alisson; Lucas, Oscar, Luciano, and Calleri. Meanwhile, Corinthians fielded Hugo Souza; Matheuzinho, André Ramalho, Cacá, and Matheus Bidu; Raniele, Alex Santana, Carrillo, and Coronado; Memphis Depay and Yuri Alberto. Coach Luis Zubeldía kept the core of the team that defeated Guarani in the previous round, while Corinthians debuted Hugo Souza and Memphis Depay as starters.
Before the game, fans from both teams clashed on Avenida Marquês de São Vicente, in Barra Funda, in the west zone of São Paulo. Around 50 fans, armed with sticks, iron bars, and fireworks, were involved in a fight that was contained by the Military Police. There were no reports of injuries, and the SSP-SP stated that the criminals should be removed from society and judged for their actions. The São Paulo Football Federation also spoke out, reaffirming the “Hate + Football” campaign, which combats intolerance and violence in sports.
The game was broadcast by Record (open TV), CazéTV (YouTube), Nosso Futebol (streaming), and Zapping (streaming). Corinthians entered the classic with three consecutive wins in the Paulistão, while São Paulo had one win and one draw. The match was another chapter in the intense rivalry between the two clubs, who have faced each other 316 times in history, with 113 wins for Corinthians, 98 for São Paulo, and 105 draws.
