Eagles Soar to Super Bowl with Record-Breaking Victory Led by Jalen Hurts
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni delivered a powerful endorsement of quarterback Jalen Hurts following the team’s dominant 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. The win secured the Eagles’ return to the Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons.
“How about our quarterback! He’s a stud. I knew he was going to play that way. I knew it. Don’t doubt him! All he does is win!” Sirianni exclaimed during his postgame interview on Fox. The moment was particularly poignant as Hurts, who has faced criticism throughout the season, smiled and embraced his coach.
Hurts, playing through a knee injury, delivered a stellar performance, completing 20 of 28 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown while adding three rushing touchdowns. His three rushing scores set a new NFL record for postseason rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, surpassing Steve Young’s previous mark.
The victory highlighted the improved relationship between Sirianni and Hurts, which had been strained during the 2023 season. This year, however, the duo has found harmony, leading the Eagles to one of their most explosive offensive performances of the season. Hurts credited Sirianni for allowing him more freedom in the game, quipping, “He let me out of my straitjacket a little bit today.”
The Eagles’ offense, led by Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, was nearly unstoppable. The team’s 55 points set a new record for the most points scored in an NFC Championship Game.
Philadelphia now prepares for a Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, aiming to avenge their loss in Super Bowl LVII. The game will take place on February 9 in New Orleans, where the Eagles will look to capture their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
