Amber Alert Issued for Two Young Girls After Mother Found Dead in Hanford
The Kings County Sheriff’s Office has issued an Amber Alert for two young girls, 2-year-old Alana Maldonado and 3-year-old Arya Maldonado, who were taken by their father, 23-year-old Jonathan Alexis Maldonado-Cruz, after their mother was found dead in their Hanford home. The mother, identified as 22-year-old Madeline Rose Cuevas, was discovered with a gunshot wound during a welfare check on Tuesday afternoon at a residence on Fourth Place near Tenth Avenue.
Authorities believe Maldonado-Cruz fled the scene around 1 a.m. on Tuesday with the children and may be en route to or already in Mexico. He is suspected of driving a gray 2020 Hyundai Elantra with California license plate number 8LZD084. Maldonado-Cruz is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 215 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous, and the gun used in the shooting remains missing.
The Amber Alert has been expanded to include multiple counties, including Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, San Diego, and Imperial, near the Mexican border. The FBI and Mexican authorities are assisting in the search.
Madeline Cuevas’ father, Joel Cuevas, expressed his grief and pleaded for the safe return of his granddaughters. He shared that Madeline and Maldonado-Cruz had known each other since childhood and attended the same schools. Madeline, who worked as a supervisor at Costco, had recently purchased a home and would have turned 23 on Valentine’s Day.
