Passengers and crew were evacuated using stairs and emergency slides, with no injuries reported. The Houston Fire Department responded but confirmed that the fire had already been extinguished by the time they arrived. The Airbus A319, carrying 104 passengers and five crew members, was scheduled to fly to LaGuardia Airport in New York. United Airlines arranged for a different aircraft to transport passengers to their destination later that afternoon.
The FAA has launched an investigation into the cause of the engine issue and subsequent fire. Passengers described the experience as harrowing, with one passenger, Ashlyn Sharp, recounting the moment she saw the flames and smelled smoke inside the cabin. She praised the crew for maintaining order during the evacuation but noted the anxiety among passengers, particularly in light of recent aviation incidents. The airline has not yet released further details about the circumstances leading to the fire.
