Allison Holker, widow of the late Stephen “tWitch” Boss, revealed that her husband underwent a significant change after participating in an ayahuasca journey. Speaking on The Jamie Kern Lima Show while promoting her memoir, This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light, Holker described the experience as a “very big turning point” for Boss, who died by suicide in December 2022 at the age of 40. She noted that after the journey, “his heart was never really in the same place” and that “there was something missing in his eyes.” Holker believes the experience opened up unresolved emotional wounds that Boss never fully healed from.
Ayahuasca, a plant-based psychedelic often consumed as a tea, is known for its intense emotional and hallucinogenic effects. Holker expressed sadness over the impact the journey had on her husband, stating that while she remembers him as a “wonderful person,” she struggles to reconcile his choices, particularly their effect on their children. Their son Maddox, 9, and daughter Zaia, 5, are in therapy to process their father’s death and the emotional triggers it has caused. Holker emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, hoping her story might help others recognize warning signs and prevent similar tragedies.
Holker’s memoir has faced criticism from some of Boss’s family and friends, but she maintains that her intention is to share her story and honor her late husband’s legacy while advocating for mental health education.
