Anthony Davis Exits Mavericks Debut with Lower-Body Injury

Anthony Davis exited his debut with the Dallas Mavericks during the third quarter of Saturday’s 116-105 win over the Houston Rockets due to a lower-body injury. The 10-time All-Star suffered the non-contact injury after awkwardly falling to the floor, prompting him to head to the locker room. Davis, who had recently returned from a five-game absence due to an abdominal injury, downplayed the severity of the issue postgame, stating he felt tightness in his quad/groin area but emphasized it was “nothing serious.” He expressed confidence that the injury was not a significant setback.

Before exiting, Davis delivered an impressive performance, tallying 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks in 31 minutes. His first-half stats made him the first player in the play-by-play era to record at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in a single half. The Mavericks, who have won back-to-back games since trading Luka Dončić, also lost forward P.J. Washington to a right ankle sprain during the game.

Davis’ injury history has been a recurring concern, as he has played more than 56 games in a season only once over the past five years. The Mavericks, who acquired Davis in a blockbuster trade, are hopeful his latest issue is minor as they aim to integrate him into their lineup and maintain their competitive standing in the Western Conference.
