Arik Armstead Honored as 2025 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead has been named the 2025 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, an honor that recognizes excellence both on and off the field. The announcement was made during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 6, 2025. Armstead, 31, becomes the second Jaguars player to win the prestigious award, following in the footsteps of former teammate Calais Campbell, who won in 2019.

Armstead, who just completed his first season with the Jaguars after spending nine years with the San Francisco 49ers, has made significant contributions to his community through the Armstead Academic Project, which he co-founded with his wife, Melinda, in 2019. The initiative provides academic support and resources to students in Sacramento, the California Bay Area, and Jacksonville, Florida, aiming to help youth unlock their potential and achieve their goals.

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, named after the legendary Chicago Bears running back, has been awarded annually since 1999 to honor players who demonstrate outstanding community service and excellence in their professional careers. Armstead’s win highlights his dual commitment to football and philanthropy, solidifying his legacy as a leader both on and off the field.

The award also comes with a $265,000 donation to the charity of the winner’s choice, while all 32 nominees receive up to $55,000 for their selected causes. Armstead’s recognition underscores the importance of giving back, a value deeply rooted in the legacy of Walter Payton, whose foundation continues to support underserved communities.
