BJP Secures Historic Victory in 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections

In the results of the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in Delhi after 27 years. The BJP secured a clear majority by winning 48 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was reduced to 22 seats. The Congress failed to win a single seat in this election. This victory is historic for the BJP, as AAP had dominated Delhi for the past three decades.

Several factors contributed to the BJP’s victory. The party established its presence among various caste and religious groups in Delhi. Out of 22 OBC candidates, 16 won. Additionally, the BJP received widespread support among Haryanvi and Purvanchali voters. The party also performed well in areas with Punjabi and Sikh voters. However, there is room for improvement in areas dominated by Valmiki and Jatav voters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the election results as a victory of “development, vision, and trust.” He stated that the people of Delhi have chosen the BJP for development, and the party will fulfill this responsibility. BJP National President JP Nadda also attributed this victory to the hard work of party workers.

The election was disappointing for AAP. Party National Convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced defeat by around 4,000 votes against BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi seat. Kejriwal congratulated the BJP and said his party would play the role of a constructive opposition. AAP senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also lost the Jangpura seat to BJP’s Tarwinder Singh Marwah by 675 votes.

The BJP is now preparing to form its government in Delhi. Several names are being discussed within the party for the Chief Minister’s position, including Parvesh Verma, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay. The BJP has announced that the CAG report will be presented in the first cabinet meeting, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to investigate corruption cases.

This election saw a decline in women’s representation. The new assembly has only five women MLAs, compared to eight in 2020. The average age of the new assembly is 52 years, with the oldest MLA being 73-year-old Tilak Ram Gupta and the youngest being 31-year-old Umang Bajaj.
