Harry Connick Jr. Celebrates New Orleans at Super Bowl 2025 Kickoff

Harry Connick Jr. brought the spirit of New Orleans to the Super Bowl 2025 kickoff with a vibrant performance that celebrated his hometown’s rich musical heritage. The New Orleans native, 57, took the stage at the Caesars Superdome, delivering a lively set that included a rousing rendition of Professor Longhair’s “Go to the Mardi Gras,” accompanied by the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band. The performance was a nod to the city’s culture, with Connick Jr. proudly declaring, “I feel great to be home in the Crescent City: New Orleans, Louisiana.”

Connick Jr., known for his deep ties to New Orleans, began his set by greeting the crowd with his signature phrase, “How ya feelin’?” He emphasized the city’s unique charm and welcomed viewers to Super Bowl LIX, which took place in his hometown. The pre-game festivities also featured performances by trumpeter Terence Blanchard, the Original Pinettes (New Orleans’ only all-female brass band), and the Spirit of New Orleans Gospel Choir, creating a festive atmosphere that highlighted the city’s jazz roots.

This wasn’t Connick Jr.’s first Super Bowl appearance; he previously performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXVI in 1992. His latest performance underscored his enduring connection to New Orleans, where he began playing piano at age 3 and later performed with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. The event also included a tribute by Lady Gaga, who performed her song “Hold My Hand” in honor of the victims of the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans and the Los Angeles wildfires.

The Super Bowl 2025 pre-show was a celebration of New Orleans’ resilience and cultural legacy, with Connick Jr. leading the charge in showcasing the city’s vibrant music scene.
