Louisiana Woman Arrested in Connection with Death of Kansas City Sports Reporter
Danette Colbert, a 48-year-old woman from Slidell, Louisiana, has been arrested in connection with the death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano, who was found unresponsive in his Kenner hotel room while covering the Super Bowl. Colbert, who has a history of alleged financial crimes and drugging men, was taken into custody by Kenner police after security footage showed her leaving Manzano’s hotel room early Wednesday morning. Investigators discovered that Colbert had allegedly used Manzano’s credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area and found his cellphone, an illegal firearm, and narcotics during a search of her home.
Manzano, 27, was on assignment for Telemundo and Tico Sports, a multimedia production company that broadcasts Kansas City Chiefs games in Spanish. His death comes less than a year after the passing of his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, leaving behind their toddler daughter. Initial autopsy results revealed no obvious signs of trauma, but toxicology tests are pending to determine the cause of death.
Colbert faces charges including simple robbery, access device fraud, bank fraud, computer fraud, and illegal transmission of monetary funds. Police are investigating whether additional charges will be filed as the case unfolds.
