Paramount Global has announced the postponement of several major events for 2025, including the CMT Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico, and the MTV MIAW Awards. The decision was outlined in a memo from Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president of music, music talent, programming, and events, who stated that the company is pausing these events to “reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward.” The move comes as Paramount anticipates a merger with Skydance Media and aims to streamline operations.

The CMT Music Awards, which have been a staple in country music since 2002, were most recently held in April 2024 in Austin, Texas. The event has seen significant changes in recent years, including a shift from CMT to CBS in 2022 and a relocation from Nashville to Austin in 2023. The postponement follows broader restructuring efforts at Paramount, including layoffs and the closure of Paramount TV Studios, as part of a plan to save $500 million.

While the pause affects several international and regional awards shows, it does not impact the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) or the Kids’ Choice Awards in the U.S. Paramount has not provided a timeline for when the postponed events might resume, but Gillmer emphasized that the company remains committed to delivering “iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture.”

The decision comes amid ongoing legal and regulatory challenges for Paramount, including a pending merger approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and a lawsuit filed by investors alleging the merger favors controlling shareholder Shari Redstone. Despite these hurdles, Paramount continues to prioritize its music and entertainment offerings, though the future of its paused events remains uncertain.
