Phoenix Suns Fall to Memphis Grizzlies Despite Durant's Milestone
The Phoenix Suns suffered their second consecutive loss, falling 119-112 to the Memphis Grizzlies at Footprint Center on Tuesday night. The defeat marks the Suns’ fifth loss in their last six games, dropping their record to 26-27. Kevin Durant led the Suns with a game-high 34 points, including a milestone free throw that made him the eighth player in NBA history to reach 30,000 career points. Durant also contributed five blocks in the loss.
Phoenix was without key players Bradley Beal (left great toe sprain), Cody Martin (sports hernia), and Vasilije Micic (left ankle sprain). In a surprising lineup change, Bol Bol made his first start for the Suns, finishing with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks. Devin Booker added 17 points and nine assists, while Tyus Jones nearly recorded a double-double with 11 points and nine assists. Despite their efforts, the Suns struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 27.3% (12-of-44) from three-point range.
The Grizzlies, led by Ja Morant’s 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, dominated the boards, outrebounding Phoenix 60-42. Memphis also had five other players score in double figures, including Santi Aldama, who scored 14 points. The Grizzlies built an early lead, going up by as many as 19 points in the second quarter and maintaining control for most of the game. Phoenix made a late push, cutting the deficit to three points with 2:34 remaining, but the Suns couldn’t complete the comeback, managing only one more field goal in the closing minutes.
The Suns will look to bounce back in their final game before the All-Star break as they travel to face the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
