PSN Outage Leaves Gamers Frustrated Over Weekend
PlayStation Network (PSN) servers experienced a significant outage lasting over 20 hours, leaving many players unable to access online services. The issues began on Friday night, February 8, 2025, with reports of server problems spiking around 6:30 p.m. EST. By Saturday afternoon, some users reported intermittent access, though service remained unreliable for many.
Sony’s official PlayStation Status page indicated that all services, including PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and gaming services, were still experiencing issues as of Saturday afternoon. Despite the widespread disruption, Sony has provided minimal updates, with its last communication being a tweet on Friday evening acknowledging that “some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.” This lack of communication has frustrated players, particularly as the outage coincided with a beta release of Monster Hunter Wild and a double XP weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Popular games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, Roblox, and Marvel Rivals were among those affected, with outage reports for these titles spiking simultaneously with PSN’s issues. While some players have regained access, the inconsistency in service and Sony’s silence on the cause of the outage have left many questioning the company’s transparency.
Forbes has reached out to Sony for further comment, but as of now, the reason for the outage remains unclear. Players continue to express frustration, with many calling for clearer communication and potential compensation for the downtime.
