Small Plane Crash in São Paulo Leaves Two Dead and Six Injured

A small plane crashed on Friday morning (7) on Avenida Marquês de São Vicente, in Barra Funda, in the west zone of São Paulo. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. and was recorded by surveillance cameras from the Smart Sampa program. The aircraft, a King Air F90 turboprop, belonged to the company Máxima Inteligência Operações Estruturadas LTDA, based in Porto Alegre (RS), and had taken off minutes earlier from Campo de Marte Airport, in the north zone of São Paulo, heading to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to reports, the pilot lost contact with the control tower three minutes after takeoff. Witnesses stated that the plane attempted to make an emergency landing before crashing, but ended up colliding with the avenue, hitting a bus and other vehicles. The crash resulted in an explosion, creating a large fireball and a dense column of smoke visible from various points in the city.

The two people on board the aircraft died at the scene. Six people on the ground were injured, including the bus driver, a motorcyclist, and pedestrians who were near the accident site. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.

The plane, manufactured in 1981, had been acquired by the company in December 2024 and was registered only for private operations, without authorization for air taxi services. The Aircraft Airworthiness Verification Certificate (CVA) was valid until the end of 2025. The causes of the accident are still unknown and are being investigated by the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), which sent a team of technicians to the site.

Teams from the Fire Department, SAMU, and the Military Police worked on rescuing the victims and controlling the fire. The avenue remains partially closed for investigation and debris removal work.
