Sony's State of Play 2025; A Glimpse into the Future of PlayStation 5 Gaming
Sony’s State of Play event returned on February 12, 2025, with a 40-minute showcase of upcoming games for the PlayStation 5. The event, broadcast live on YouTube and Twitch in both English and Japanese, highlighted a diverse lineup of titles from studios worldwide. While major anticipated announcements were absent, the presentation featured several notable reveals and updates.
Among the highlights was the announcement of Days Gone Remastered, set to launch on April 25, 2025. The remaster includes new modes such as permadeath and speedrun options, with a $10 upgrade path for PS4 owners. Additionally, Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, unveiled its next project, Saros, a haunting new shooter slated for a 2026 release.
Other key announcements included Hell is Us, a horror-themed game launching on September 4, 2025, and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic, which will debut on June 13, 2025. Q-Games introduced Pixeljunk Liftoff, an innovative title where players rebuild the world through shooting mechanics, set to release later in 2025. Capcom also showcased more of Ōkami 2, first revealed at The Game Awards 2024, with a planned 2026 release.
The event concluded with updates on Borderlands 4, confirming a September 23, 2025, release date, and a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, set to launch on August 28, 2025. While the State of Play lacked blockbuster surprises, it offered a glimpse into a varied and creative lineup of games for PS5 players in the coming years.
