Toronto Raptors Trade Davion Mitchell to Miami Heat for P.J. Tucker and Future Assets

The Toronto Raptors have traded guard Davion Mitchell to the Miami Heat in exchange for veteran forward P.J. Tucker, a second-round pick, and cash considerations, according to reports. The deal, finalized on February 6, 2025, is part of a larger multi-team trade framework involving Jimmy Butler.

Mitchell, 26, was acquired by the Raptors last summer from the Sacramento Kings. In 44 games this season, he averaged 6.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 24.5 minutes per game, shooting 43.4% from the field and 35.9% from three. Known for his defensive prowess, Mitchell provided stability during Immanuel Quickley’s absence and contributed to Toronto’s improved defensive identity. However, his limited offensive role made him expendable, especially after the Raptors acquired Brandon Ingram in a separate trade.

Tucker, 39, returns to Toronto, where he was originally drafted in 2006. This marks his third stint with the Raptors, though he is not expected to remain with the team. If not traded again before the deadline, Tucker is likely to be bought out or released. The second-round pick acquired by Toronto adds future flexibility as the team continues its rebuild.

For Miami, Mitchell brings a defensive-minded guard who can provide depth behind Tyler Herro and strengthen the Heat’s perimeter defense as they push for the playoffs. Mitchell’s $6.45 million expiring contract also helps Miami duck below the first apron of the luxury tax, providing financial flexibility.

The trade underscores Toronto’s focus on acquiring assets and clearing salary space, while Miami aims to bolster its roster for a postseason run. Mitchell’s future with the Heat remains uncertain, as he is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
