Tragic Death of Philadelphia Basketball Star Noah Scurry Linked to Earlier Murder Case
A tragic and complex story has emerged surrounding the death of 17-year-old Philadelphia basketball star Noah Scurry, who was fatally shot on January 14, 2024, while heading to school with his mother. The incident occurred around 7:15 AM near Tacony Creek Park, where witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and the anguished screams of Scurry’s mother. Law enforcement launched an immediate investigation, focusing on a white Jeep Grand Cherokee spotted near the scene, which was later located in Northeast Philadelphia. However, no suspects have been publicly identified, and police have not confirmed whether Scurry was specifically targeted.
The case took a darker turn when rapper Gillie Da Kid revealed during an interview on Club Shay Shay that police informed him Scurry was responsible for the murder of his son, Devin Spady, known as YNG Cheese, who was fatally shot in July 2023 at the age of 25. Gillie stated that his son was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” during a drive-by shooting and that Scurry was allegedly close to being arrested for the crime before his own death. Gillie also expressed concern about the influence of street culture on young people, noting that Scurry had recently released a drill rap video under the name “OtvJoker,” wearing a Joker mask and brandishing guns.
Scurry, a promising athlete with college basketball prospects, was remembered by his school community as a bright student with the highest SAT scores in his school. Monique Braxton, a spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia, described the loss as “unimaginable” and emphasized Scurry’s potential, which was tragically cut short. The circumstances surrounding both Scurry’s and Spady’s deaths remain under investigation, leaving the Philadelphia community grappling with the senseless violence and its devastating impact on young lives.
