Winter Storms Sweep Across the U.S., Bringing Snow, Ice, and Severe Weather

A series of winter storms is sweeping across the United States, bringing heavy snow, ice, and potentially severe weather to more than 80 million people from the Midwest to the East Coast. The National Weather Service warns of significant ice accumulation in the Central Appalachians and heavy snow in the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic regions through Wednesday. A second storm is expected to impact the Central Plains, with snowfall rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour in some areas, leading to hazardous travel conditions and possible power outages.

In South-Central Pennsylvania, a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected, with warmer air transitioning precipitation to rain overnight. The region remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until early Thursday, with potential for black ice on untreated surfaces. Meanwhile, the Midwest and Northeast are bracing for another storm system, which could bring 4-8 inches of snow and further travel disruptions.

Extreme cold warnings are also in effect for parts of the Northern Rockies, Great Lakes, and Central Plains, with temperatures plummeting 25 to 35 degrees below average. Forecasters predict heavy snow in the Central Plains and Great Lakes, with up to 10 inches of accumulation possible. Additionally, excessive rainfall in the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys raises concerns about flash flooding.

Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous conditions, including icy roads, power outages, and potential flooding, as the storms continue to move across the country.
