Woman Arrested in Connection with Death of Sports Reporter During Super Bowl Coverage
A woman with a history of drugging men and stealing their credit cards has been arrested in connection with the death of a sports reporter found in his Louisiana hotel room while covering the Super Bowl. Danette Colbert, 48, was taken into custody by Kenner police after allegedly using the credit cards of Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old Telemundo KC sports reporter who was found dead in his hotel room on February 5.
Manzano, who was in New Orleans to cover Super Bowl LIX, was discovered unresponsive in his room at the Comfort Inn in Kenner. Police reviewed hotel security footage, which showed Colbert entering and leaving Manzano’s room early on the morning of February 5. Detectives later found Manzano’s missing credit card and cellphone during a search of Colbert’s home. The credit card had reportedly been used at several stores in New Orleans.
Colbert has been charged with fraud and theft-related offenses, including bank fraud, computer fraud, and illegal transmission of monetary funds. Police noted that the investigation is ongoing and that charges could be upgraded pending the results of toxicology tests and further evidence. Authorities have not yet determined Manzano’s cause of death, but no obvious signs of trauma were found on his body.
Colbert has a lengthy criminal history, including prior arrests for drugging men, theft, and financial crimes. Court records reveal she has been arrested at least six times in the past 12 years for offenses such as theft, bank fraud, and second-degree battery. Police are urging anyone with additional information about Colbert’s involvement in these crimes to come forward.
Manzano, a rising star in sports journalism, was remembered by his colleagues as a dedicated and talented reporter. He leaves behind a young daughter, whose mother, Manzano’s wife, was killed in a car crash last year. The tragic circumstances surrounding his death have left the journalism community and his family in mourning.
