In a surprise win, Mikey Madison claimed Best Actress for her role in Anora, Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning film about an exotic dancer entangled with a Russian oligarch’s son. Madison used her platform to advocate for the sex worker community, calling for respect and human decency. Zoe Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez, a musical about a Mexican cartel leader’s gender transition, while Kieran Culkin took Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, though he was absent due to a family illness.

Other notable wins included Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, which swept both the Best Animated Film and the inaugural Family Film Award, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which won Best Documentary. Warwick Davis received the BAFTA Fellowship, delivering an emotional speech about the loss of his wife and the healing power of cinema.

The ceremony, hosted by David Tennant, set the stage for the upcoming Oscars, with many winners now considered frontrunners for Hollywood’s biggest night.
