4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Delhi-NCR, No Casualties Reported
An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude was felt in Delhi and NCR on Monday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was near Jheel Park, Dhaula Kuan in Delhi, at a depth of 5 kilometers. The earthquake occurred at 5:36 AM, and its tremors were felt for about 35 seconds. During the earthquake, a loud noise was heard, which caused panic among people, and they rushed out of their homes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to remain calm and follow safety precautions. He mentioned that officials are monitoring the situation and advised everyone to stay alert for potential aftershocks. The Delhi Police has issued helpline number 112 for emergency assistance.
No loss of life or property was reported during the earthquake. However, people shared their experiences of the tremors on social media. Many also shared CCTV footage showing fans and other objects shaking during the earthquake.
Delhi-NCR falls under Seismic Zone IV, which is sensitive to moderate to severe earthquakes. The Dhaula Kuan area has experienced several minor earthquakes in the past few years. According to scientists, this region is highly susceptible to earthquakes due to tectonic plate activity.
Political leaders also responded to the earthquake and wished for the safety of the people. Aam Aadmi Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi appealed to the public to follow safety guidelines.
