4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Delhi-NCR, Panic Ensues
An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude was felt in Delhi-NCR on Monday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Dhaula Kuan area of Delhi at a depth of 5 kilometers. The earthquake occurred at 5:36 AM, and its tremors were felt across the entire NCR, including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad. During the earthquake, a loud noise was also heard, causing people to panic and rush out of their homes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to people to remain calm and follow safety precautions. He also advised staying alert for potential aftershocks. The Delhi Police issued helpline number 112 for emergency assistance.
After the earthquake, people shared their experiences on social media. Many reported that the tremors were so strong that they woke up from their sleep. However, there have been no reports of any damage or loss of life so far.
The Dhaula Kuan area falls under seismic zone IV, which is considered sensitive to moderate to severe earthquakes. Previously, in 2015, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in this area. According to experts, this region experiences minor earthquakes every two to three years.
