Baena, a filmmaker known for works like “Life After Beth” and “The Little Hours,” had been married to Plaza since 2021 after the couple began dating in 2011. Following his death, Plaza and Baena’s family released a statement calling his passing “an unimaginable tragedy” and requesting privacy during their time of grief. Plaza had previously canceled her appearance at the 2025 Golden Globes, which took place just two days after Baena’s death.
Plaza’s appearance at the “SNL” special marked her first televised appearance since the loss of her husband, and fans noted the emotional significance of her outfit choice.
