Diddy's Defense Lawyer Seeks Withdrawal from High-Profile Sex Trafficking Case

One of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense lawyers, Anthony Ricco, has filed a motion to withdraw from the music mogul’s high-profile sex trafficking case, citing that he can no longer “effectively serve as counsel.” Ricco submitted the request in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, though a judge must still approve the motion before it becomes official. In his affidavit, Ricco stated, “Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs,” but did not elaborate on the reasons for his departure, citing attorney-client privilege. He assured the court that his withdrawal would not delay the trial, scheduled to begin on May 5, as Combs will continue to be represented by five other attorneys.

Combs, 54, faces federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after multiple judges denied him bail, citing concerns over potential witness tampering. If convicted on the top charge, Combs could face a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and up to life imprisonment. The case has drawn significant attention, with Combs also facing over 40 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and abuse. His legal team, led by Marc Agnifilo, has not commented on Ricco’s departure.
