Eddie Murphy Impersonates Tracy Morgan in Hilarious 'Black Jeopardy' Sketch on SNL 50th Anniversary
During the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special on February 16, 2025, Eddie Murphy stole the show with a hilarious impression of fellow former cast member Tracy Morgan during a “Black Jeopardy” sketch. The sketch, hosted by Kenan Thompson, featured Murphy playing Morgan while standing next to the real Tracy Morgan, who portrayed a character named Darius. Leslie Jones also joined as a contestant, adding to the comedic dynamic.
Murphy’s over-the-top impression of Morgan’s voice and mannerisms drew big laughs, particularly when he quipped, “Big dog gonna make some big money!” Thompson jokingly questioned Murphy-as-Morgan about his wealth, to which Murphy responded, “You gotta have a lot of money if you live like I live. The sketch also included a surprise appearance by Chris Rock, who took over hosting duties briefly, and Tom Hanks, reprising his role as a MAGA hat-wearing contestant named Doug. Hanks delivered a line about how more people going to church could solve today’s problems, prompting Thompson to shake his hand in agreement. Hanks quipped, “Maybe I’ll start a show for you to come on, and we’ll call it ‘White Jeopardy,’” to which Thompson quickly shut down the idea.
The “Black Jeopardy” sketch, a fan-favorite recurring segment, was a highlight of the anniversary special, blending meta-humor, celebrity cameos, and sharp social commentary. The categories included “Look Here,” “This Joker Talkin’ Bout,” “Leave Bronny Alone,” and the classic “White People,” keeping the audience entertained with its clever wit and star-studded lineup.
