FDA Escalates Recall of Pearl Milling Company Pancake & Waffle Mix Due to Undeclared Milk Allergens

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated the recall of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix to its highest risk level, classified as Class I, due to the presence of undeclared milk allergens. The recall, initially issued voluntarily by The Quaker Oats Company on January 14, 2025, affects two-pound boxes of the product distributed to retailers in 11 states: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Utah, and Wisconsin. Consumers may have purchased the affected products as early as November 18, 2024.

The FDA defines a Class I recall as a situation where there is a “reasonable probability” that using or being exposed to the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death. The undeclared milk poses a significant risk to individuals with milk allergies, which affect 2–3% of children under three years old and can lead to severe reactions, including anaphylaxis. No allergic reactions related to this recall have been reported to date.

The recalled product has a UPC code of 30000 65040 and a best-by date of September 12, 2025. Consumers with milk allergies or sensitivities are advised to discard the product or return it to the place of purchase. No other Pearl Milling or Quaker Oats products are affected by this recall. The FDA continues to monitor for any adverse health effects associated with the product.
