Flash Flood Warnings Issued Across Kentucky, West Virginia, and Southern Indiana

Flash flood warnings have been issued across multiple counties in Kentucky, West Virginia, and southern Indiana as heavy rainfall continues to batter the region. The National Weather Service reports that excessive rainfall has already caused flooding in rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas, with additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches expected in some areas.

In northeast Kentucky, counties including Boyd, Carter, and Greenup are under a flash flood warning until 3:00 AM EST Sunday. Locations such as Ashland, Ironton, and Grayson are experiencing ongoing flooding, with up to 1 inch of rain already fallen and more expected. Similar conditions are reported in portions of West Virginia, including Boone, Cabell, and Kanawha counties, where flooding is expected until 2:15 AM EST Sunday.

The Little Sandy River at Grayson is forecast to reach moderate flood levels, with the river expected to crest at 25.7 feet by Sunday evening. This could result in flooded roads and low-lying areas, particularly affecting Route 773 and Jackson Road.

Louisville Metro and surrounding counties in Kentucky and southern Indiana are also under a flash flood warning, with up to 3 inches of rain already recorded in some areas. Emergency responders have performed nearly 30 water rescues in Jefferson County alone, urging residents to avoid flooded roadways. Governor Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency, warning of dangerous driving conditions and urging caution.

The heavy rainfall is expected to taper off by early Sunday morning, but lingering showers and potential snow flurries could exacerbate flooding concerns. Residents are advised to stay informed and avoid travel in affected areas.
