Henry Cejudo's Comeback Stumbles with Controversial Loss to Song Yadong at UFC Seattle
Henry Cejudo’s comeback tour hit another setback as he suffered a controversial technical decision loss to Song Yadong in the main event of UFC Seattle. The fight, held at Climate Pledge Arena, ended abruptly after Cejudo was unable to continue following an accidental eye poke in the third round. The incident occurred after a series of fouls, including a groin strike by Song, which led to a pause in the action. Cejudo took the full five minutes to recover but later informed his corner that he could not see out of his left eye, prompting referee Jason Herzog to halt the fight.
The bout went to the scorecards, with Song winning via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27). Cejudo, a former two-division UFC champion, expressed frustration post-fight, stating, “I couldn’t see out of my left [eye]. My right’s OK, but I think even that last minute when he was chasing [me], I didn’t know what he was throwing at me.” Song, who apologized for the accidental foul, called for a rematch, saying, “The result is not what I want, but I’m so sorry Henry. He’s a legend, and I think we should run it back.”
The loss marks Cejudo’s third consecutive defeat since returning from retirement in 2023, while Song rebounded from a previous setback against Petr Yan. The event also featured a series of stoppages on the prelims, including a stunning knockout by Ricky Simon and a first-round submission by Ion Cutelaba. In the co-main event, Anthony Hernandez extended his winning streak to seven with a unanimous decision victory over Brendan Allen.
