Inter Miami CF concluded their preseason with a thrilling 2-2 draw against in-state rivals Orlando City SC on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The match, attended by a crowd of 42,000, served as a final tune-up before the start of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season and the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Orlando City struck first in the 15th minute through Martin Ojeda, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Inter Miami. However, Miami equalized seven minutes later when Luis Suarez assisted Argentine newcomer Tadeo Allende, who scored from a tight angle. Orlando regained the lead in the 54th minute after a poor clearance by Miami defender David Martinez led to a goal by Ramiro Enrique. Miami’s Fafa Picault salvaged a draw in stoppage time, scoring from close range after a rebound from Robert Taylor’s shot.
Lionel Messi, who started the match alongside Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, was substituted in the 75th minute to a loud ovation. Despite not scoring, Messi’s presence energized the crowd, with fans chanting his name throughout the game. Inter Miami finished the preseason undefeated, scoring 12 goals and conceding five across five matches.
The match also marked the MLS debut of 21-year-old Venezuelan midfielder Telasco Segovia, who joined Inter Miami from Portuguese club Casa Pia. Miami dominated possession in the first half (59%) and outshot Orlando 8-6, with three shots on target.
Inter Miami now shifts focus to their Concacaf Champions Cup opener against Sporting Kansas City on Tuesday, February 18, followed by their MLS season opener against New York City FC on February 22. Coach Javier Mascherano emphasized the importance of managing player minutes during the preseason to ensure readiness for the upcoming competitive fixtures.
