Ludvig Åberg Clinches Dramatic Victory at 2025 Genesis Invitational

Ludvig Åberg secured his second PGA Tour victory in dramatic fashion at the 2025 Genesis Invitational, held at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego. The 25-year-old Swedish golfer carded a final-round 66, finishing at 12 under par, one stroke ahead of Maverick McNealy. Åberg’s triumph marked his third professional win since turning pro in 2023 and his first signature event victory, earning him a $4 million prize.

Åberg began the final round three shots behind the leaders but surged late with four birdies in his last six holes, including a clutch 7-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th to seal the win. His back-nine 32, highlighted by three consecutive birdies from holes 13 to 15, proved decisive. McNealy, who started the day five shots back, briefly held the lead after a blistering start that included nine birdies in his first 13 holes. However, a bogey on the 14th and a missed birdie opportunity on the 18th left him one stroke short.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, despite a third-round 76, made a late charge with a 66 but fell short, finishing tied for third with Patrick Rodgers. Rory McIlroy, paired with Scheffler, struggled with his putting and ended the tournament at 3 under.

Åberg’s victory moves him to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings and solidifies his status as one of golf’s rising stars. Reflecting on his win, Åberg said, “It was a great fight. I’m really proud of the way I finished. It was really cool.” The win also marked a significant turnaround for Åberg, who had struggled with illness during a previous tournament at Torrey Pines just weeks earlier.
