Timberwolves Face Thunder Without Key Starters Due to Injuries

The Minnesota Timberwolves will face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night without three key starters. Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, and Julius Randle have been ruled out for the game due to injuries. Gobert is sidelined with low back spasms, marking his second consecutive absence. DiVincenzo, recovering from a big toe sprain, and Randle, dealing with a right groin strain, have not played since January 15 and January 31, respectively. While both players have been cleared for limited basketball activities, neither is ready to return for Sunday’s 8:30 p.m. CT tipoff on ESPN.

In their previous game without Gobert, the Timberwolves struggled defensively, allowing 48 points in the first quarter and ultimately losing 121-115 to the Houston Rockets. The starting lineup featured Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid, with Luka Garza stepping in as a backup big man. Bench contributions came from Jaylen Clark and Terrence Shannon Jr., who played 21 and 19 minutes, respectively. However, rookie Rob Dillingham saw limited action after a questionable three-point attempt led to his benching.

The Timberwolves, currently 31-26 and holding the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference, will look to regroup against the Thunder, who boast a strong 45-10 record. The game will be played in Minneapolis, with the second leg of the back-to-back scheduled for Monday night in Oklahoma City.
