AC Milan's Top-Four Hopes Dented by Bologna Defeat

AC Milan’s hopes of securing a top-four finish in Serie A took a significant hit as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Bologna on Thursday night at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. The loss leaves Milan eight points behind fourth-placed Juventus and three points behind Bologna, who now sit sixth in the standings.

Milan started the match brightly and took the lead just before halftime through Rafael Leao. A long ball from goalkeeper Mike Maignan was flicked on by Santiago Gimenez, allowing Leao to round Bologna’s keeper and slot home. However, the second half saw a dramatic collapse from the Rossoneri. Bologna equalized three minutes after the restart when Santiago Castro fired in from close range following a free-kick. Despite Milan’s protests over a potential handball in the buildup, VAR upheld the goal.

Bologna continued to press and completed the turnaround in the 81st minute. Nicolo Cambiaghi delivered a precise cross from the left, and Dan Ndoye tapped in from close range to secure the win. Milan had a few chances to level the score, notably through Yunus Musah, but Bologna’s defense held firm.

The defeat marks a low point for Milan, who have now lost back-to-back Serie A matches and face an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Manager Sergio Conceicao expressed frustration but vowed to continue fighting for results. Meanwhile, Bologna celebrated their first home win against Milan in Serie A in nearly 23 years, bolstering their own European ambitions.
