Detroit Pistons End Losing Streak with Victory Over Boston Celtics
The Detroit Pistons snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Boston Celtics with a dominant 117-97 victory on Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena. The Pistons (33-26) extended their winning streak to eight games, while the Celtics (42-17) saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
Detroit’s Malik Beasley led the charge with 26 points, including six three-pointers, while adding 13 rebounds. The Pistons outrebounded the Celtics 49-33 and outscored Boston 62-42 in the second half. Beasley’s energetic celebrations after his shots drew attention, with Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff joking that Beasley was “ruining a generation of players” with his showboating. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla acknowledged Beasley’s right to celebrate, stating, “That’s on us for allowing him to feel that way. The only way we can control that is by defending him better.”
Boston, playing without All-Star Jaylen Brown, struggled to keep pace. Jayson Tatum scored 27 points, while Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each added 18. However, the Celtics were outmatched in the paint, where Detroit held a 62-20 scoring advantage. The Pistons took control in the third quarter, outscoring Boston 35-24, and opened the fourth with an 8-0 run to seal the win.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for Detroit, which had not beaten Boston since February 16, 2022. Both teams return to action on Friday, with the Celtics hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Pistons facing the Denver Nuggets.
