Karen Huger Sentenced to One Year in Jail for DUI and Related Charges
Karen Huger, a star of The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to one year in jail after being found guilty of driving under the influence (DUI) and related charges. The sentencing took place on February 26, 2025, following a March 2024 car accident in Maryland where Huger crashed her Maserati. Montgomery County Circuit Judge Terrence McGann described Huger as “filled to the gills with alcohol” during the incident, which involved her veering into a pedestrian crossing sign, spinning, and hitting a tree.
Huger, 61, was convicted on multiple charges, including DUI, driving while intoxicated (DWI), speeding, and failing to report a change of address to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. She was acquitted of reckless driving. Her two-year sentence included one year suspended, meaning she will serve one year behind bars and was ordered to report directly to police custody.
Huger’s attorney, David Martella, stated that she is “at peace” with the decision and has been focusing on her recovery, claiming she is the “healthiest she has been in several years.” Huger had previously skipped the RHOP Season 9 reunion to enter a private recovery program, a decision supported by her team. In a pretaped message aired during the reunion, Huger took full responsibility for her actions, expressing concern for her family and acknowledging the impact on her public image.
The incident has drawn reactions from her castmates, including Gizelle Bryant, who expressed concern for Huger’s well-being, stating, “Karen ain’t cut out for jail.” Huger’s case has been a significant storyline in her personal and professional life, with her legal team indicating plans to pursue an appeal.
