Luka Dončić delivered a standout performance in his first game against his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 107-99 victory on Tuesday night. The five-time All-NBA selection recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists, marking his first triple-double in a Lakers uniform. LeBron James also played a pivotal role, scoring 16 of his team-high 27 points in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
The game was tightly contested, with the score tied at 91-91 with just over six minutes remaining. However, the Lakers closed the game on a 16-8 run, fueled by key contributions from Austin Reaves, who added 20 points. On the Mavericks’ side, Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 34 points, while Klay Thompson contributed 22.
Dončić, who was traded to the Lakers just weeks earlier, admitted to feeling emotional facing his former team. “I don’t know how to explain it. I think the first quarter, second quarter, I didn’t know what was happening. It was just different,” he said after the game. The Slovenian star also added three steals and two blocks, showcasing his all-around impact.
The Mavericks were without Anthony Davis, who was sidelined due to a left adductor strain. Despite the loss, Dallas remained competitive, shooting 40% from beyond the arc. Mark Cuban, the former majority owner of the Mavericks, was in attendance, adding to the significance of the matchup.
The Lakers’ victory highlighted their potential for a deep playoff run in the Western Conference, with Dončić and James forming a formidable duo. The win also marked Dončić’s 81st career triple-double, further cementing his status as one of the league’s premier players.
